ImageFebruary 8, 2007 – the one and only daughter of Eng. and Mrs. Generoso Bruno celebrated her ninth birthday in a birthday bash at the Mediterranean Hotel, which included a welcome to the newly arrived Welfare Officer to Tripoli, Libya, Robert Bassig; and congratulatory celebrations to Winnie Bruno Gudasen, niece of Eng. Gene Bruno, for passing the Nurses Board Examinations.

ImageEng. & Mrs. Bruno are old timers in Libya, having lived there for the past 27 years.  Benee, nee Benedicta Valenzuela,as she is fondly called by friends, is a nurse at the Tajura Cardiac Center who first came in 1980. She graduated BSN from the Arellano University. Eng. Bruno followed and at present is working with Shilla Company. He is a graduate of BS Civil Engineering at the Mapua Institute.

ImageThey are blessed with three children, the youngest of whom, is Genevieve born in 1998, now Grade 3 at the Philippine Community School. They have two older sons, the eldest named Gene Benedict, is at present on his fourth year of Electrical Engineering also at Mapua Institute. The second named Francis Mell is on his third year of  Law at the Lyceum- Manila. Both had graduated Grade 12 at  the International School of Martyrs in Tripoli, Libya.

ImageThe affair was well attended by members of the diplomatic corps, led by none other than H. E. Ambassador Bayani Mangibin, LabAtt. Nasser Mustafa and his better half, Madam Apsa. Members of the Filipino Community Organization in Libya were also very visible like Mr. & Mrs. Ludovico Macavinta, as well as the members of FMCC [Filipino Moslem Consultative Group] like Aga Khan. But the night, of course, belongs to the children who showed their talents in dancing and singing.

There were games like ‘name this song’ played by Eng. Bruno in his guitar, trip to Jerusalem and statue dance where all the children won prizes. There were also give-away gifts of small decorative mementoes to bring home.

ImageGene and Benee had been happy in Libya and would prefer to stay longer until such time as all their children are through college before they would think of going back home for good.

They will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on the 24th of July 2007.
